Plagiarism Policy

The Journal of Economics, Management, Development, and Education (JEMDE) is committed to maintaining academic integrity and ensuring that all published manuscripts are free from plagiarism and unethical publication practices.

Plagiarism is strictly prohibited in all forms, including but not limited to: copying text, ideas, data, images, tables, or any part of another work without proper acknowledgment, as well as self-plagiarism (reusing substantial parts of the author’s own previously published work without citation).

1. Plagiarism Screening

All manuscripts submitted to JEMDE will undergo plagiarism screening using plagiarism detection software (e.g., Turnitin or other equivalent tools). The editorial team will evaluate similarity reports before the manuscript is sent for peer review.

2. Similarity Threshold

JEMDE applies the following similarity standards:

  • The overall similarity index should not exceed 20%.

  • Similarity from a single source should not exceed 5%.

  • Manuscripts with similarity results above the acceptable limits will be returned to the author(s) for revision or may be rejected depending on the severity.

Note: Similarity may occur due to commonly used terms, standard methodological descriptions, references, or properly quoted material. Therefore, the editorial team will assess the report carefully and not rely solely on the percentage.

3. Types of Plagiarism

The journal recognizes the following forms of plagiarism:

a. Direct Plagiarism
Copying text word-for-word without quotation marks and without citation.

b. Mosaic Plagiarism
Mixing copied phrases and sentences from different sources while changing only a few words.

c. Paraphrasing Plagiarism
Rewriting another author’s ideas without proper citation.

d. Self-Plagiarism
Reusing significant parts of one’s own published work without citation, including duplicate submission or redundant publication.

e. Data and Image Plagiarism
Using data, figures, tables, or images from other sources without permission and acknowledgment.

4. Author Responsibilities

Authors are responsible for ensuring that:

  • All sources are properly cited and referenced.

  • Quoted text is clearly indicated with quotation marks and correct citations.

  • The manuscript is original and has not been published elsewhere.

  • Any reuse of previously published content (including the author’s own work) is clearly disclosed and cited.

5. Editorial Actions in Cases of Plagiarism

If plagiarism is suspected at any stage (before or after publication), JEMDE will take appropriate actions, including:

  • Requesting clarification or revision from the author(s).

  • Rejecting the manuscript if plagiarism is confirmed.

  • Informing the author’s institution in serious cases (if necessary).

  • Publishing a correction, expression of concern, or retraction for published articles when plagiarism is discovered after publication.

6. Retraction Policy (Related to Plagiarism)

An article may be retracted if plagiarism is confirmed after publication. Retractions will be made openly and transparently to protect the integrity of the scholarly record.
